Hurricanes baseball takes care of FIU at loanDepot park

Miami, Fla. – Nicknamed the “Battle for the 305” and the first-ever meeting at loanDepot park Tuesday between the two schools separated by less than 10 miles, Miami Hurricanes sophomore Daniel Cuvet ripped a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded into the left field bullpen for a sixth-inning grand slam, sending the Hurricanes fans home happy with a 7-3 victory against Florida International University (11-3).

Cuvet’s grand slam marked his team-leading third home run of the season – with the grand slam being the only long ball hit Tuesday in the home stadium of the MLB’s Miami Marlins.

Tuesday’s contest featured a back-and-forth battle in the early stages, with the Hurricanes (10-3) racing out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, only to see the Panthers score two in the third and one in the fifth to even the score, but would not create any damage after that.

The Hurricanes, winners of two straight, return home to Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field Wednesday to open a four-game homestand vs. Villanova and Connecticut, whereas the Panthers return to the field Mar. 7 in the opener of a three-game weekend tilt against rival Florida Atlantic.
