Florida Panthers vs Calgary Flames

 Florida Panthers vs Calgary Flames

A great moment at the Amerant Bank Arena for Ryan Lomberg the former Florida Panther now Calgary Flame received a standing ovation from the crowd giving one skate around the rink. Lomberg was a fan favorite having won the Stanley Cup last season with the franchise and this would be his first return to South Florida since joining Calgary. The Flames are currently holding on to the final playoff spot in the Western Conference starting out the month of March facing the defending champions.

The first period was a deadlock as the Panthers look to secure their third consecutive victory coming off wins against Nashville and Edmonton. It's been ruled now that the Panthers will be without Matthew Tkachuk for quite a while and they hope to get him back for the playoffs. Florida also traded backup goaltender Spencer Knight and a 2027 first round pick to Chicago for Seth Jones. Florida are looking to make their third consecutive Stanley Cup Finals.

The second period would start with the Panthers getting on the board four minutes in by way of Gadjovich assisted by Greer to make it 1-0. Florida would double the lead at the end of the period with Evan Rodrigues assisted by Ekblad extending the lead to 2-0. The Panthers had this two-goal lead despite committing two penalties in the period. The Flames offense struggled and was nowhere to be found as they were shutout by Tampa Bay the game prior.

The Panthers would put the game to bed at the ending of the third period with Samoskevich finding the net for the 10th time this season assisted by Sam Bennett making the game 3-0. Sergei Bobrovsky had a great night in goal stopping 23 shots earning his 47th career shutout. No team since the 2001 season has gone scoreless on a road trip to the state of Florida. Florida has had 11 different players score since the four nations break. Panthers go on to defeat the Flames by a final score of 3-0.

Next up for the Florida Panthers is a home game welcoming the Tampa Bay Lightning to Amerant Bank Arena.
