 Inter Miami CF vs NYCFC

Finally the brand new 2025 Major League Soccer season has arrived and with many moves in the offseason for Inter Miami CF, they look to avenge what was a disappointing first round exit in the playoffs to Atlanta United. Miami enters the season with the chance to win four different trophies with that being, CONCACAF Champions Cup, Leagues Cup, MLS Cup, and the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup. The Herons opened up the season welcoming NYCFC to Chase Stadium.

Miami enters the new season after having a league record best season by any club in history winning the Supporters Shield. Javier Mascherano would be making his coaching debut after replacing Tata Martino in the offseason. Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba were back at their best just five minutes into the match creating chances which would pay off. Tomas Aviles would find the back of the net giving Miami the lead 1-0 and just like that it looked like Inter Miami were going to be difficult this year.

It was a nightmare scenario just 18 minutes later for Miami with the goal scorer Aviles receiving a red card for a challenge on the edge of the box sending them down to 10 men. A beautifully rehearsed set piece caught Miami napping with Mitja Ilenic finding the back of the net to equalize the match 1-1. The momentum swung in New York's favor after this goal and the sending off. Miami's defense would be overwhelmed by NYC's attack led by Maxi Moralez.

In the second half it was the team from Manhattan that would silence Chase Stadium on opening night leaving fans scratching their heads. Adrian Martinez would capitalize after a rare bad giveaway from Alba squaring the ball into the net to give the visitors the 2-1 lead. 11 minutes of stoppage time was given with New York holding the lead the majority of the time. Messi would strike finding Segovia with a cheeky chip shot to equalize 2-2. The final whistle would blow not long after and both teams would share the hard fought point to start the season.

Next up for Inter Miami CF is a road match visiting the Houston Dynamo.
