Florida Panthers vs Ottawa Senators
The last time the Florida Panthers faced the Ottawa Senators it was at the beginning of the season the first road trip in which the Senators defeated the Panthers. This time Ottawa would be making their way down to South Florida where the Panthers come back from a road trip defeating the Blues 3-2 last time out. Florida currently sits second in the Eastern Conference as they've started to heat up at the right time and looks more like the Florida of last season. The season will take a pause for a week after this game for the Nations Showdown.
In the first period it was the Senators getting on the board first through Brady Tkachuk on a power play assisted by Batherson making it 1-0. Brady happens to be the brother of Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk in which earlier this year the Senators fans chanted Brady was batter than Matthew. Amerant Bank Arena exchanged the favor and chanted during this game that Matthew was better than Brady. The first period would come to a close with Ottawa in the lead.
The Panthers exploded in the second period starting off six minutes in on a power play with the puck finding the back of the net by way of Matthew Tkachuk equalizing the game 1-1. Barkov five minutes later assisted by Tkachuk would give the Panthers the lead 2-1. Gustav Forsling would earn his eighth goal of the season assisted by Schmidt doubling the Florida lead to 3-1. Sam Bennett closed off the second period adding another goal for the Panthers assisted by Tkachuk to make the game 4-1.
Linus Ullmark would have 43 saves for Ottawa and history was made through the Tkachuk making it the first time they have both scored in the same game. They will soon become teammates for Team USA in the Nations Face-Off. The Senators gave up an empty net goal in the third period that would extend the Florida lead to 5-1. Ottawa has lost three straight and have given up four goals in all of those losses. The Panthers make it back-to-back victories and this would be the fourth time they would have a four-goal period this season.
Up next for the Florida Panthers is a home game welcoming the Seattle Kraken to the Amerant Bank Arena.
