Florida Panthers vs Chicago Blackhawks

 Florida Panthers vs Chicago Blackhawks

Welcome to the month of February for the Florida Panthers starting it out with a home game welcoming the Chicago Blackhawks to the Amerant Bank Arena. The last game in January for Florida was at home where the Panthers defeated the Kings 3-0. This victory helped the Panthers jump into first in the division and third in the conference. The last game in January for the Blackhawks was a 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes as Chicago continues to struggle this season sitting second to last in the Western Conference.

It took just seven seconds into the game for the deadlock to be broken with the Blackhawks getting on the board through Slaggert getting his second goal of the season assisted by Donato making it 1-0. Five minutes later the Panthers would have a response with Gadjovich getting his second of the season assisted by Greer equalizing the game 1-1. The Panthers main man Sam Reinhart would get on the board assisted by Barkov getting his 30th of the season giving Florida the 2-1 lead to end the first period.

In the second period of this early Saturday afternoon matinee it was Matthew Tkachuk finding the back of the net for his 17th goal of the season. This goal assisted by Reinhart would double the Florida lead making the game 3-1. A victory in this game would give Panthers head coach Paul Maurice his 900th career regular-season victory. Sergei Bobrovsky dominant as always in goal would stop 24 shots from Chicago. Maurice would be the fourth head coach in NHL history to reach that milestone.

It didn't take long in the third period for Florida to find the back of the net once again. Just 10 seconds in and the red light was on as Panthers fans celebrated around Amerant Bank Arena with the goal coming from Evan Rodrigues getting his 12th goal of the season making it 4-1. The icing on the cake for sure came from a power play for Carter Verhaeghe getting his 12th of the season also putting the game away extending the score to 5-1. The Panthers would defeat the Blackhawks by this margin to make it two consecutive victories.

Up next for the Florida Panthers is a home game welcoming the New York Islanders to Amerant Bank Arena.
