Hurricane Beck: Transfer Portal’s Latest Storm Hits Miami
As much as every Hurricane fan wanted Cam Ward for another year, we must move forward and find a replacement. Now, I am not saying there’s another Cam Ward in the transfer portal, but Miami does need to address the QB room. After witnessing the atrocity on offense in the second half of the Pop-Tart bowl, it was clear that Emory Williams was not the answer for this program after Cam Ward. If head coach Mario Cristobal wants to continue the momentum they have, he’ll need a talented QB with years of experience that wants to increase their draft stock by preforming at an elite level.
Miami was thrown into a multitude of possible QB scenarios, like John Mateer, Fernando Mendoza, and CJ Bailey. Unfortunately, these QBs ended up either staying in their current situation or transferring to another program. Miami came in second for the best QB transfer at the time, former Washington State QB, John Mateer, who ended up transferring to the Oklahoma Sooners. Fortunately, a week after pledging for the NFL Draft, Georgia Bulldogs QB-Carson Beck has decided to back out of the draft and enter the transfer portal. In that moment, everyone began to speculate where Beck could end up, with the majority saying Miami is the team to beat for the former Bulldog.
On Friday afternoon, notifications flew across the college football world and announced that Carson Beck has committed to the Miami Hurricanes with one year of eligibility remaining. HC Mario Cristobal basically repeats history and gets a transfer QB who’d originally entered the NFL Draft. Miami now has a #1 QB transfer with the experience and talent that can help the team this upcoming season achieve something they couldn't with Cam Ward, that is be a contender for the National Championship.
Carson Beck’s career stats are pretty good especially when you consider that Georgia’s wide receivers aren't the team's best quality amongst other positions. Miami on the other hand has the better Offensive Coordinator, better receivers, better running-backs, overall weather and Hanna Cavinder!
Let us not forget that Carson Beck played under HC Kirby Smart in the SEC. Carson knows what a championship caliber team is supposed to look like, feel like and play like. The entire Miami staff should use this opportunity to address any weaknesses they have. If Mario could get any tips and tricks that Kirby used over there in Athens, this Miami team could evolve.
