Florida Panthers vs San Jose Sharks
Paul Maurice and the Florida Panthers are looking for a well needed break from back-to-back games in which the last road trip has not been kind in that regard. The Panthers defeated the Ducks 5-2 and had a game the next night against the Kings in which they lost 2-1 looking fatigued. This brings us to the current game against the San Jose Sharks and would be followed against the Las Vegas Golden Knights the next day. Good news is Florida gets a couple of days off before welcoming the Kings to the Amerant Bank Arena at midweek.
Five minutes into the first period it would be the Panthers getting on the board first against the struggling Sharks. It was Nate Schmidt going unassisted putting Florida up 1-0. Just a minute later the Sharks responded through Ceci assisted by Walman to equalize the game 1-1. A minute later once again it was San Jose taking the lead through Smith assisted by Ferraro making it 2-1. Later in the period Sam Bennett would equalize for the Panthers assisted by Greer putting the score 2-2. The first period ended with a goal from Ekblad assisted by Tkachuk giving Florida the lead 3-2.
It was all Panthers in the second period with Greer finding the net three minutes in assisted by Nosek doubling the Florida lead to 4-2. A power play favored the Panthers with Matthew Tkachuk assisted by Barkov opening up the Florida lead to 5-2. The onslaught continued 15 minutes in with Boqvist assisted by Lundell extending the Florida lead to 6-2. If it wasn't over already Sam Reinhart added salt to the wound putting one in the back of the net for the Panthers extending to 7-2.
The Panthers would tie a season high finding the back of the net seven times after a fatigued effort against the Kings just scoring once. The Sharks have struggled mightily the last three games conceding five goals in each one of those games. San Jose currently has given up the most goals by any team in the NHL. Florida earned their third four-goal period of the season despite no goals being scored in the third period. The Panthers go on easily to win the game against the Sharks by a final score of 7-2.
Up next for the Florida Panthers is a road game visiting the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
