Florida Panthers vs Philadelphia Flyers

 Florida Panthers vs Philadelphia Flyers

The Florida Panthers have not been so fortunate when it comes to the overtime period. Florida would fall to the Boston Bruins at home with 19 seconds remaining in the extra period 4-3. The Panthers are 2-2 so far in the month of January really struggling to find some form of consistency. Next up for the Panthers was a road game up in the northeast visiting the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers currently sit 13th in the Eastern Conference not having so much of a hot season entering this game after a 6-0 thrashing of the Anaheim Ducks.

In the first period it was Sam Reinhart picking up right where he left off against Boston and getting on the scoresheet opening up the lead 1-0 against the Flyers. The lead would extend for the Panthers just two minutes later by way of Balinskis assisted by Rodrigues making the lead 2-0. The Panthers have also struggled this season to maintain leads. Florida in recent games have struggled with penalties having committed two in the first period with Philadelphia committing none.

The Flyers would find their way back in the second period with Hathaway going unassisted making the score 2-1. Sergei Bobrovsky had another stellar night with 25 saves despite what happens later on in this game. Reinhart would have his fifth multi-goal game just for the second time in his 11-year career. Cates for the Flyers on the third line has eight goals and six assists in his last 15 games. The Flyers power play goals ranks dead last in the NHL but benefitted against Florida in this game.

Starting on the power play in the final period saw the Flyers equalize the game 2-2 with the goal coming from Cates assisted by Sanheim. Florida would fire right back on a power play with Reinhart getting another goal to give the Panthers the lead again 3-2. That would be the last goal of the game for Florida with Frost assisted by Michkov getting the next one for Philadelphia on the power play equalizing 3-3. Cates would score to take the lead assisted by Foerster to make it 4-3 and would end up being the final score. It would be back-to-back defeats for Florida as they sit just three points off of third place.

Up next for the Florida Panthers is a road game visiting the New Jersey Devils.
