Florida Panthers vs New Jersey Devils
It was a disappointing loss for the Florida Panthers the last time out falling to the Philadelphia Flyers when they had a 2-0 lead. That made two consecutive losses for Florida as they turned their focus to an extremely difficult game in the northeast. The Panthers would visit the New Jersey Devils who currently sit third in the Eastern Conference. The difference between Florida and New Jersey is only three points and a win for the Panthers would be huge. This would send Paul Maurice back home happy after the two-game road trip in the northeast.
This was an extremely tense and defensive game with both teams not allowing anything offensively to happen. There was no goals in the opening two periods leaving the teams deadlocked 0-0. Jesper Boqvist would silence the Prudential Center with the Panthers taking the 1-0 lead just 41 seconds into the final period. This was Boqvist 10th goal of the season and was a return after he spent the opening years of his career with the Devils.
The lead would not last long for Florida with Nico Hischier the captain for New Jersey equalizing the game 1-1 at 2:27 in the third. It was Hischier's 20th goal of the season as it was assisted by Nathan Bastian. Markstrom who was going up against Spencer Knight would make 27 saves as Knight would make 26 himself. The Devils are 19-10-3 after a 3-0 loss to Calgary that came on November 1st and compiled a winning record since that loss.
Knight would deny Hischier in the final minutes of the game to keep the score deadlocked at 1-1 sending the game to overtime. In overtime there was also no goals so it would send the game to a shootout where the Panthers have struggled this season. New Jersey got an overtime win against the Lightning the last time out. Anton Lundell scored the shootout winner giving the Panthers the 2-1 victory sending Florida just one game behind the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division.
Next up for the Florida Panthers is a home game welcoming the Detroit Red Wings to the Amerant Bank Arena.
