Florida Panthers vs Detroit Red Wings
It was a big time win for the Florida Panthers last time out defeating the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in a shootout. The victory brought the Panthers just one game behind the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Atlantic division but still remain fifth in the Eastern Conference. The Panthers would return home to face the Detroit Red Wings. This opens up only a two-game stint at home for Florida also welcoming the Anaheim Ducks.
The Red Wings opened up the scoring just eight minutes into the contest with Berggren finding the back of the net on a power play assisted by Gustafsson to make it 1-0. Florida would respond just three minutes later by way of Lundell who got the shootout winner against New Jersey. Lundell would be assisted by Carter Verhaeghe equalizing the game 1-1.
Seven minutes into the second period the Red Wings would retake the lead on yet another power play given up by Florida. Larkin would find the back of the net assisted by Kane to make the game 2-1. The lead didn't last long with a minute later Evan Rodrigues finding the net for Florida making the game 2-2. Another power play would benefit the Red Wings with Kane giving Detroit the lead back 3-2. They earned themselves a two-goal advantage at the end of the period through Kasper making it 4-2.
Florida would not find the back of the net anymore for the rest of this game. With an empty net the gamble did not pay off for the Panthers with Larkin finding his second of the game and extending the lead to 5-2. The Panthers would have five penalties in this game with Detroit converting three of them into goals. Sergei Bobrovsky was pulled in the second period of this game making it only the second time the Panthers have done that.
Up next for the Florida Panthers is a home game welcoming the Anaheim Ducks to the Amerant Bank Arena.
