Florida Panthers vs Anaheim Ducks
It was a bad loss last time out for the Panthers falling at home to the Detroit Red Wings. Florida is 4-5 in the month of January entering this game against the Anaheim Ducks. The Panthers still remain in reach of the division and the conference. They currently sit second behind the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division and fifth in the Eastern Conference with both standings being very tight. The Ducks entered the Amerant Bank Arena sitting 13th in the Western Conference coming off a 4-3 defeat in a shootout against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The first period for the first time in a while for Florida provided zero goals. Spencer Knight was in goal for the Panthers finishing the night with 34 saves with his second shutout of the season. On the other side for the Ducks it was Josh Gibson who would save 42 shots. In this game Sam Reinhart was given a game misconduct for kneeing Isaac Lundestrom in the first period. The Panthers and Ducks struggled from the power play both going 0-2.
The Panthers found the breakthrough in the second period just 11 minutes in by way of Boqvist for his 11th goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Nosek putting the home team up 1-0. Florida committed three penalties in this game compared to Anaheim's zero.
In the third period the Panthers continued their dominance as they found the back of the net two more times to put the game to bed. Lundell would find his 11th goal of the season going unassisted to extend the Florida lead to 2-0. The Ducks would empty their net which allowed Forsling to pick up his seventh goal of the season to make it 3-0. The Panthers go on to defeat the Ducks in a shutout by the final score of 3-0.
