Inter Miami CF vs Columbus Crew

Inter Miami CF vs Columbus Crew

This is the match that everyone was waiting for at Lower.com Field where a win for Inter Miami CF gives them the supporters shield title. The supporters shield is the title given to the team who has earned the most points league wide. The Columbus Crew also in the Eastern Conference not only the second best in the conference but second best league wide. Miami has drawn three straight times making things interesting for this matchup between them and the Crew.

As expected it would be the Columbus Crew feeling the adrenaline from its home crowd and would be feeding off that energy applying the pressure to Miami. It was seeming like Columbus would find the opening goal the half was about to end scoreless. The captain Lionel Messi would receive a ball from Jordi Alba finding his chest and weaving through two defenders perfectly placing the ball to give Miami the 1-0 lead.

Just a few minutes later Messi would silence the Columbus crowd. A free kick taken by Messi left the Columbus keeper watching as Miami doubled the lead to 2-0. At this point everyone thought it was over as both teams headed to the dressing room. The Crew aren't the second best team in the league for no reason and they would respond.

Right off the bat Columbus would set the tone in the second half with Diego Rossi scoring in the 46th minute making it 2-1. Silly mistakes would come to haunt the Crew and the first would occur just moments after Columbus cut the deficit. A miscommunication between the keeper and defender left a wide open header for Luis Suarez who would make it 3-1.

We all knew he was going to get one as he always does in important matches and we're talking about Cucho Hernandez. Hernandez would score a penalty to make it 3-2 in the 61st minute making it a match. The moment was leaning in favor of the Crew and would draw another penalty but here would come the other costly mistake. Drake Callender would save the penalty and send Miami to a 3-2 victory securing the supporters shield for the first time in club history.

Next up for Inter Miami CF is a road match visiting Toronto FC.
