Cameron Boozer scores his 1,000th high school point

It was a historical occasion at Christopher Columbus High School on Monday night as Cameron Boozer reached his 1,000th point in high school basketball.

We entered the night with Boozer needing just seven points to reach the achievement as the Explorers welcomed the Braddock Bulldogs in a GMAC quarterfinal matchup.

The achievement was reached in the first quarter with the Explorers finishing the quarter with a 24-11 lead. Coach Andrew Moran called a timeout when Boozer hit the 1,000 mark to give Cameron the game ball in which he presented it to his mom and his father who is former NBA player Carlos Boozer.

A running clock was implemented the rest of the way because of the large lead the Explorers had built. By the end of the 3rd quarter in which Columbus outscored Braddock 25-7 saw the Explorer first unit make way for the second unit.

The Explorers would defeat the Bulldogs by a final score of 86-36 to advance to the semi-final of the GMAC where they will face the Southridge Spartans.

The Explorers look to repeat as state champions this season as well as making noise on the national spotlight. They've had a good amount of national TV air time on ESPN this season as they're currently ranked #7 in the nation with a 17-3 overall record.

Coach Moran's squad has taken down some pretty big names like Camden, San Ysidro, and Bronny James with Sierra Canyon.
