Inter Miami CF vs Philadelphia Union

Inter Miami CF vs Philadephia Union

The excitement was finally here for Inter Miami CF fans and that is the return of Lionel Messi after his injury in the Copa America final. With just six matches left in the regular season, Messi would return and boost this team even more than what it has done without him. Miami would welcome the Philadelphia Union to Chase Stadium. The Union have downgraded this season after being a stronghold in the league the last three years.

The match would start quick for the Union with Mikael Uhre putting his team up 1-0 just one minute into the match. David Martinez had a poor clearance leaving the ball to Uhre who would use his speed to get past Martinez and fire off a shot past Callender. This would be the second match in a row where Uhre would put Philadelphia up early.

Following the goal, Philadelphia continued to test Miami with four recorded shots on goal. The captain in his return would get on the scoresheet and we're talking about Messi. He created momentum and then would be assisted by Luis Suárez to make it a 1-1 match. Miami has been good this year at bouncing back when going down a goal.

Just five minutes later it was Messi again to make it 2-1 for the Herons. Jordi Alba found Messi running down the center of the box playing a cross to him with Messi firing a one-time shot to the lower right corner leaving it no chance to be saved. Philadelphia now had to play catch up which would be a difficult task to do.

The match would be sealed in the 90th minute plus stoppage time with Messi finding Suarez with a one-time finish to make it 3-1. Miami would go on to get the three points as they continue to stretch that lead between themselves and FC Cincinnati at the top of the leaderboard. They're also still in control of the Supporters Shield for the best record in the league.

Next up for Inter Miami CF is a midweek road match visiting Atlanta United.
