FIU vs Monmouth

 FIU vs Monmouth

It was homecoming week on the campus of Florida International University with many festivities going on and would be capped off at the cage with the Panthers hosting Monmouth. FIU would be looking to get back on track trying to forget about last weekend at Boca Raton losing the Shula Bowl to rivals FAU. Monmouth would enter Pitbull Stadium coming off a major victory defeating Maine by a final score of 51-22.

QB Keyone Jenkins would finish the game for the Panthers with a career-high 362 passing yards completing 23-of-32 passing attempts. He would also have two touchdowns and would throw no interceptions. Eric Rivers would grab seven catches for 101 yards. Dean Patterson would earn his first career rushing touchdown going with seven receptions for 68 yards.

Monmouth QB Derek Robertson would go for 361 yards and one touchdown finishing 35-for-51. Josh Derry grabbing most of the catches on the night would haul in seven receptions for 108 yards. On the ground was Rodney Nelson having 117 yards off of 14 carries and a touchdown. Adding to that was Sone Ntoh with 53 yards on 12 attempts scoring three touchdowns.

Overall in this game Monmouth would outdo the Panthers on offense with 540 yards to 475 yards. Penalties killed FIU all night long with a season-high of 12 penalties. Panthers entered the game grabbing an early 7-0 lead in a game most people thought would be a guaranteed victory. This game showed that college football can be unpredictable and never count out the underdog.

Monmouth took a 45-42 lead late in the game leaving FIU time to go on a game winning drive and they were so close. Josiah Miamen looked like he was heading to the end zone to give the Panthers the victory but would fumble at the goal line being recovered by Monmouth. This sealed the game and Monmouth would earn their first ever FBS victory 45-42 over FIU.

Next up for FIU is a home game opening conference play welcoming Louisiana Tech to Pitbull Stadium.
