The Miami FC vs Oakland Roots

The Miami FC vs Oakland Roots

The last time the Miami FC has been able to get a victory at home was on April 27th against San Antonio FC as that is now about to be four months ago. Miami sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just eight points as well as the worst team in the league. Its going to be an uphill battle if Miami wants to they to aim for that 8th and final playoff spot. This weekend was another challenging match as Miami welcomed third place Oakland Roots to FIU Stadium.

A familiar face to Florida lined up on the field for Oakland and that was forward Dominic Dwyer who spent some years playing in the MLS for Orlando City. That is definitely a player that Miami would have to watch for in this match. There was no threat to kick off this match as both teams were getting a feel for each other exchanging possession. Miami struggled to push the ball up and would play a lot through the back line.

That 0-0 scoreline would change near the end of the first half in the 38th minute. A stolen ball on Miami's own side of the pitch saw Memo Diaz split the defense in half taking a shot just outside the right side of the box across goal finding that back post to make it 1-0 for the visitors. We've seen how turnovers this season can become a nightmare for Miami. They remained optimistic and pushing each other despite giving up the goal.

A second goal would arrive for Oakland in the second half in the 69th minute with a beautiful run from Johnny Rodriguez. Rodriguez came up at the end of a cross that left Daniel Gagliardi with nothing to do but watch as Oakland went up 2-0. Miami would come back in the match in the 75th minute with Frank Lopez putting the ball in the back of the net for 2-1. Miami would have 10 shots on goal after that but could not find the equalizer as Oakland took home the 2-1 victory plus the three points.

Next up for The Miami FC is a road match visiting Loudoun United at the weekend.
