The Miami FC vs Charleston Battery
Back at home for The Miami FC after a west coast road trip for one match where they managed to share the points with Orange County SC after a 2-2 draw. Miami looks for the second win of the season after a promising start to the season after a 2-0 win over Colorado Springs at home. They've only fallen once which was a 1-0 result against Sacramento Republic but have a chance at redemption welcoming the Charleston Battery at home.
The Battery had to play a lot through the back line and with the goalkeeper to start the match because of the high press Miami were playing. Despite the pressure, Charleston enjoyed a lot of possession but could not advance the ball across their own half. It seemed that both squads favored to play through the left side of the field near the team benches.
The early pressure would pay off for the home side as they would be first on the scoreboard thanks to Allen Gavilanes. This would be Gavilanes third goal in two matches continuing his hot start and run of form. It seems like if Miami wants to get things going offensively they have to find Gavilanes who made it 1-0. He received a great through ball from Genzano which allowed Gavilanes to dribble past the Battery keeper for the score.
The lead would not last long for Miami as Charleston won a free kick in a dangerous area near the corner flag. The Battery with a height advantage over Miami would equalize the match 1-1 in the 10th minute with a beautiful ball played in finding the head of Nicholas Markanich. This goal was the momentum shifter for the rest of the match.
Miami would be left trailing the ball and struggling to find good stints of possession as they continued to find that long ball that worked for them to find the first goal. Unfortunately for Miami in the 82nd minute a deflection off of a Gagliardi save would prompt a tap in from Matthew Myers who would give the Battery the 2-1 lead. That score would hold as the Battery hand Miami their second loss of the season as well as the second at home.
Next up for The Miami FC is a road match visiting Hartford Athletic at the weekend.
