The Miami FC vs Sacramento Republic
It was a great start to the season under new leadership for The Miami FC grabbing a 2-0 victory at home to gain three points. Last years Miami was inconsistent and struggled to put together two consecutive victories which would be the question entering this season. They were successful against teams at the bottom of the table but couldn't grab points against top teams. Welcoming Sacramento Republic at home would be a good start.
It was a stalemate in the opening minutes of the match with both teams sharing the ball equally. This did not allow for either team to have any attacking threat or any clear chances. Until the 11th minute where there was a scare on a sequence that saw a bad giveaway from Miami put the ball right at the feet of Cicerone but was not able to convert due to a save from Daniel Gagliardi.
This brought us to the 21st minute of play where Miami finally got a clear opportunity to threaten the Sacramento defense. It was Allen Gavilanes who went on a run on the left side breaking the defense with a clear shot on goal but sent it wide past the far post.
The teams continued to exchange chances with each other and ended up going into the dressing room 0-0. The star of the show and the match for Miami would have to be Gagliardi who turned up with some pretty big saves to keep the match level. The second half would start with much of the same intensity between both teams.
The moment of truth arrived in the 59th minute on a counter attack from Sacramento which saw a cross from Donovan found the head of Trevor Amann past the diving Gagliardi to give the visitors the 1-0 lead. Miami could not recover and broke down after conceding the goal and would fall after playing such tough match. The first loss of the season would occur at home but there was plenty of positives to take away from the game.
Next up for The Miami FC is a road match visiting Orange County SC on Saturday.
