Inter Miami CF vs D.C. United
It was a rout at home for Inter Miami CF in the CONCACAF Champions Cup eliminating Nashville SC and advancing to the quarterfinals where they will face Monterrey. The most pressing issue was losing Lionel Messi to a slight hamstring injury where the club once again has been mysterious on providing a timetable. The Herons traveled to the nations capital to face D.C. United without the World Cup winner.
There's been lots of talk amongst fans and analysts across the league that Miami can't perform in games without Messi. They already have one loss without him against Montreal and it started off on a bad foot with United taking an early lead. Jared Stroud would give the home side a 1-0 lead early on in the 14th minute.
There was also a lot of talk because of the early shape of Luis Suarez and his struggles to run that Leonardo Campana should start over him. Campana indeed get the start over the Uruguayan in this match and would equalize the match. In the 24th minute it was the Ecuadorian taking his second shot in under a minute to make it 1-1.
It was an even fight in the second half with both squads having opportunities to take the lead but the star of the show was the former FC Barcelona man. Federico Redondo would find Campana who served a ball into the box finding Suarez for the tap in to give Miami the lead 2-1. The goal was scored in the 72nd minute leaving D.C. to scramble with little time.
Diego Gomez would find Suarez in the 85th minute with Suarez hitting a chip from the edge of the box and doubling the lead for the team in pink making it 3-1. The match was put to bed and Suarez now has five goals across all competitions. Miami gains the three points on the road and remains in first of the Eastern Conference.
Next up for Inter Miami CF is a road match visiting the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.
