Miami Dolphins vs Kansas City Chiefs
The day finally arrived that so many Miami Dolphin fans had been waiting for and that was the first postseason game after a record breaking season. The Dolphins had high expectations with even Super Bowl on the minds of the fan base after the way they've played. It wouldn't come easy as the three game lead they had in the AFC East disappeared and would have to settle for a road game in the first round at Arrowhead against the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in freezing temperatures.
The Dolphins entered the sub zero Arrowhead with a depleted roster due to injuries but still had a chance to go out and compete. Tua Tagavailoa would finish the night with 199 yards going for 20/39 with one interception and one touchdown. Raheem Mostert would rush for 33 yards on 8 carries with De'Von Achane going for 9 yards on 6 carries. Tyreek Hill on his return to KC would have 62 yards total on 5 receptions with one touchdown.
It wasn't the best of seasons for the Chiefs but Patrick Mahomes would have a good night going for 262 yards with one touchdown on 23/41. Isiah Pacheco had a good night as well rushing for 89 yards on 24 carries and he had some help from Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushing for 21 yards on seven carries. Rashee Rice had a monster night with 130 yards, one touchdown, on 8 receiving.
The Dolphins offense was completely shut down with what really looked like they only had three plays in their playbook. They would only capitalize on a deep pass from Tagavailoa to Hill making it a one possession game but they would never recover. Mahomes and Rice plus rushing was too much to handle for the injury plagued Miami defense. The Chiefs would go on to eliminate the Dolphins 26-7 from the playoffs.
A lot of criticism was drawn after the game whether Tagavailoa is the right guy for the Dolphins as well as questioning his toughness. Miami has a big decision to make regarding opening up that checkbook or will they decide to go on a different route away from the former Alabama man. Observation was also made on Mike McDaniels play calling and how one dimensional it was as he wasn't able to escape the criticism.
That'll do it for Miami Dolphins football in the 2023-2024 season and we look forward to seeing the progress of the team next season and how the offseason will unfold. Miami will now look forward to the NFL Draft and any offseason moves they need to make.
