Miami Heat vs Detroit Pistons

 Miami Heat vs Detroit Pistons

Finally the 2023 season has arrived for the Miami Heat as they enter the season as the defending Eastern Conference champions with much left to be accomplished. Miami did not make many roster moves in the offseason after falling in the NBA Finals at the hands of the Denver Nuggets. They kicked off the season at home welcoming the Detroit Pistons.

Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler would open their 2023 campaign with a combined 41 points with 13 rebounds as the Heat just barely fend off the Pistons in a 103-102 victory. The Heat were up by 19 with just 10 minutes remaining but would go stone cold frozen in the final two minutes.

Tyler Herro would go for 16 points as well as Duncan Robinson going for 15 points. Veteran Kevin Love would chime in with 13 points and 10 rebounds. This contribution would help Miami start the season 1-0. They were 14-8 in the regular season last year when playing in close games.

For the Detroit Pistons it was Cade Cunningham who went for 30 points and nine assists on the night. Jalen Duren went for 17 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks. Isaiah Stewart had 14 points on the night with 14 rebounds and Killian Hayes also contributed with 10 points.

Miami went scoreless in the final two minutes due to a 14-0 run by Detroit making it a ballgame. It would come down to a three point attempt by Cunningham that was no good.

The Heat would hang on to defeat the Pistons 103-102 to start off the season 1-0.

Next up for the Miami Heat is a road trip visiting the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on Friday night.
