FIU vs UTEP
Two straight losses for the FIU Panthers to Liberty and New Mexico State evened the record to 3-3 and making them 0-3 in the conference. Wednesday night offered them a good opportunity to get the first conference victory and improve the overall record welcoming 1-5 UTEP to FIU Stadium. It was also Vice Night as the Panthers unveiled arguably one of the best uniforms in college football.
The Miners who have never won a game in the state of Florida put up 21 unanswered points leaving FIU in a big hole.
FIU QB Keyone Jenkins would go for 12 completions on 216 yards with 0 passing touchdowns on 1 interception. Jenkins would have one rushing touchdown capping an 84-yard drive bringing him his fourth rushing touchdown of the season.
FIU RB Kejon Owens would rush for 82 yards on 10 carries and would also score on a 11-yard run which would make the score 24-7.
Jenkins rushing touchdown to start the second half would bring the score to 24-14 bringing life to FIU fans that they could mount a comeback.
The Miners would tack on three more to make the game 27-14 shutting out anything the Panthers wanted to do offensively.
UTEP would defeat FIU dropping the Panthers to 3-4 on the season and 0-4 in conference play with the final scoreline of 27-14.
Next up for the FIU Panthers is a road trip next Wednesday visiting Sam Houston State.
