FIU vs Sam Houston
The FIU fans were horribly disappointed in the last outing from the Panthers. They fell at home at the hands of UTEP in a conference matchup. The Miners had only won one game all season and entered Miami handing the Panthers there third straight loss. They now traveled to Sam Houston for another conference matchup against a winless team.
FIU QB Keyone Jenkins completed 26 of 38 for 190 yards including one touchdown. The sophomore RB Kejon Owens would run for 60 yards including one touchdown as well. Reggie Peterson on defense would go for 10 tackles and his second career interception.
Sam Houston's QB Keegan Showmaker would finish the game 31 of 47 with 306 yards and two touchdowns. WR Noah Smith would catch nine passes for 91 yards on the evening.
This was a back and fourth game that had most Panther fans nervous on the reality of being able to lose to a winless team. For Sam Houston they were highly motivated to earn their first win of the season in front of the home crowd.
The game would head to OT all knotted up where the Panthers and Bearkats would duke it out in the first OT exchanging punches and forcing double OT.
In double OT where a two point conversion is needed it would be the Panthers defense coming up with the stop after the FIU offense scored. That would seal the deal 33-27 for an FIU victory advancing them to a 4-4 record just two victories away from clinching a bowl appearance.
Next up for the FIU Panthers is a home game welcoming Jacksonville State at midweek to FIU Stadium.
