The Miami FC vs Detroit City

The Miami FC vs Detroit City

Lots were at stake this past weekend when The Miami FC hit the road to visit Detroit City FC. The South Florida side is on a two-match losing streak as well as facing a Detroit team that is currently holding the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. A loss for Miami or even a draw can expand the gap between them and the final playoff spot.

This match started with both teams just sitting two points from each other in the Eastern Conference. A gap that small in the dying moments of the season with playoff contentions proves pivotal. The pressure was mounted on both sides to deliver results.

Detroit City would deliver the first blow early on in the match with a counter attack that would send Miami's defense unorganized and scrambling. A header would finish the end of the attack to give the home side the 1-0 lead.

A position that Miami has been in so many times this season, they remained calm and started to mount the comeback. They were able to start controlling the match by dominating possession in the midfield. The first half would end with Miami getting very close with finding an equalizer.

Another setback and obstacle would face Miami just at the beginning of the second half. Another header would find the back of the net for Detroit making it 2-0. We all know the most dangerous lead in all of soccer is the 2-0 scoreline.

The blue and orange did not give up and kept on pushing and would earn themselves a penalty late in the match at the 74th minute. Claudio Repetto would nail the penalty to cut the deficit to 2-1 and it was now game on.

Unfortunately, there was not enough time for Miami and Detroit would earn the 2-1 victory and secure all three points. The South Florida side have now lost three consecutive matches falling five points behind the final playoff spot.

Next up for The Miami FC is a home match welcoming the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at FIU Stadium at the weekend.
