Kevin Durant is traded to the Phoenix Suns
In the wee hours of the early morning, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant was on the move to the Phoenix Suns. Many people on the west coast were shocked and much surprise to those on the east coast that were just seeing the news waking up on Thursday morning.
The Suns would send Mikel Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Jae Crowder to the Brooklyn Nets as well as four unprotected first-round picks. The Nets in return would send over Kevin Durant and T.J. Warren to the Phoenix Suns.
This move pairs Durant with Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton, and Devin Booker that would create a Phoenix super team. This move in Phoenix is the first time the city has been buzzing about a move since the Suns traded for Charles Barkley. Many fans in the evening after the news break started to congregate in front of the Footprint Center to celebrate their new signing.
Durant's move ends the short tenure in Brooklyn of Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden who only played a total of 16 games together. They were poised to bring a championship to Brooklyn but would become of the biggest trio failures in NBA history. Harden would be traded to Philadelphia, Irving recently traded to Dallas, and now Durant being traded to Phoenix.
After Irving's debut with the Dallas Mavericks, he was informed that his friend and former teammate had just been traded to Phoenix. Irving would go on to say that he never had any disagreements with KD and they just want to see each other succeed. Irving welcomes the competition now with Durant in the west and happy he's out of Brooklyn. Something interesting to note is ESPN's Brian Windhorst saying that Irving has had interest in the Phoenix Suns in the past so don't close the door on that.
The Phoenix Suns came up short in the 2021 NBA Finals falling to the Milwaukee Bucks 4-2. This addition of Kevin Durant can be the greatest chance to redeem themselves and bring an NBA title to the valley.
