Johnny Cueto signs with the Miami Marlins
Right-handed pitcher Johnny Cueto and the Miami Marlins have agreed on a 1-year deal that guarantees Cueto at least $8.8 million.
Veteran Cueto will join Miami after spending his previous season with the Chicago White Sox where he went 8-10 with a 3.35 ERA through 24 starts.
Before his time in Chicago, Cueto spent six years with the San Francisco Giants where he became an all-star as well as having to undergo Tommy John surgery.
The right hander is a World Series champion from the 2015 season where he spent his time with the Kansas City Royals.
A big reason for Cueto landing in Miami is his relationship with new Marlins manager Skip Schumaker who was teammates with Cueto with the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds organization drafted Cueto and made his debut for the club in the 2008 season.
This was a good acquisition for the Marlins bullpen who are now putting together a lineup of aces. Miami is rumored to be after Cuban star pitcher Aroldis Chapman who also played with Cueto and Schumaker with the Reds.
