Miami-Dade College Women's Volleyball Media Day

Miami-Dade College Women's Volleyball Media Day

Miami-Dade College Athletics hosted their first ever media day for one of the most notorious programs at the institution. The women's volleyball team has won multiple national championships with a roster that has produced Olympic volleyball athletes from all over the world.

The program is under good care with head coach Origenes "Kiko" Benoit who is currently in his 17th season with the program. The program under coach Kiko's watch has achieved two national titles as well as 12 state titles. He has been named Southern Conference Coach of the year 13 times and State Coach of the Year 12 times. Coach Benoit has a major influence on recruiting international players with having 11 out of 16 players being foreign on the current roster.

The team is currently 14-4 on the season with only one defeat in the entire month of September. They seem to have found a dominant stride as they head into the final month of the regular season. They're averaging 13 kills per set, .308 hitting %, 12 assists per set, 2 blocks per set, 2 service aces per set, and 15 digs per set.

In a press conference with Ana Tevdoradze, Jazmin Vergara, and Coach Benoit, they all stressed the importance of wanting to get better and clean up any mistakes they've made throughout this season. Of course for Tevdoradze and Vergara, their main goal is to bring a championship title back to MDC and was the reason why they came to Miami.

Recruiting is a big process of college athletics and is something that is important to Coach Benoit whether that's internationally or locally. When asked about recruiting Coach Benoit stressed the fact of having players "who want to be here".

The MDC women's volleyball program would host the local GMAC Championships involving Miami High, Ferguson, Terra, Southwest, Coral Reef, Reagan, Killian, and Palmetto. Coach Benoit and his staff would attend the matches to look for possible future MDC players. This is a great way for local high school players to get to know Benoit and the program.

The season rolls on for the Sharks with a home match this upcoming Thursday, October 6th at 6:00 pm at MDC Kendall Campus hosting Eastern Florida State College.
