Inter Miami CF vs San Jose Earthquakes

Inter Miami CF vs San Jose Earthquakes

As Phil Neville would say, this was another cup final for Inter Miami CF to gain more points in their fight towards the playoffs. Three points against San Jose would be vital to keep the hopes alive and alive indeed they kept them. The Earthquakes on the other hand who have struggled all year defensively have the #4 offense in the Western Conference. This is a prime example of why you need defense in order to win games and not just offense.

This was a match that Miami should've won by multiple goals which left the dressing room with mixed emotions after the match. The San Jose Earthquakes made this match a nail biter and fought hard all the way till the end.

For the second match in a row it was a Miami team that was setting the pace to the match showing they were ready for full out attack. The 10th minute would be a special moment for Jean Mota who would mark his first goal in Major League Soccer. This goal should be in the running for MLS goal of the week as it was a beautiful volley outside the box that met the top right corner with no chance to be saved to make it 1-0.

After the goal, the tone shifted as the Earthquakes started to control the match through possession and opportunities in the box. Subject of concern would be both Leonardo Campana and Gonzalo Higuaín both being subbed out with injuries. Campana was subbed off with an apparent thigh injury and Higuaín who would have to enter concussion protocol after a clash of heads in the box.

San Jose could not shake the hands of Callendar despite having opportunities as well as Damion Lowe making some shaky passes and clearances. Miami would go on to secure victory and those +3 points bumping themselves up to 8th in the Eastern Conference just a spot shy of a playoff spot.

Next up for Inter Miami CF is a road matchup on the weekend visiting CF Montreal.
