Inter Miami CF vs FC Cincinnati

Inter Miami CF vs FC Cincinnati

This fixture was already proven to be super crucial for both clubs in terms of playoff positioning in the top seven. Cincinnati struggling to pick up victories because of draws and Miami coming off a loss to the defending champions looking to jump into the playoff picture which would drop their opponent in this match out of the picture.

The match would have the perfect start for Miami as they had perfect pace and pressure. You just knew that a goal was bound to happen for the Herons. That moment would arrive in the 23rd minute when Robert Taylor was fouled just outside the box setting up a dangerous set piece. Gonzalo Higuaín would step up to take it and drilled it over the wall into the upper right corner of the goal making it 1-0 for Miami. It wouldn't last long with the Ohio team striking right back in the 28th minute that saw Brenner sliding to a ball inside the box arriving to it before defender Deandre Yedlin knotting things up 1-1. The crazy half would continue in the 37th minute with Alejandro Pozuelo opening the defense finding Gonzalo Higuaín who would net his second to give Miami back the lead 2-1. Cincinnati would hurt the sloppy defense by Miami once again responding in the 40th minute with a beautiful long ball on a counter that would find Brenner who scored his second to make it 2-2. In the 45th minute before the break on a set piece, Jean Mota would be taken out in which the play would be reviewed by VAR resulting in a penalty. Higuain would step up to nail the penalty for a first half hat trick sending his team to the break up 3-2.

The second half would make Miami fans a little worried as the time ticked on. The action would occur late starting in the 80th minute when Brandon Vazquez hit a pass in the box that would get past Callendar to equalize the match 3-3.  It didn't end there with Cincinnati striking again in the 88th minute with Vazquez getting on the end of another pass by Barreal to give them the lead 4-3. In the 90th minute in the dying moments of this match, Christopher McVey got a shot off a the top of the box hitting the inside of the cross bar falling in for the equalizer to end the match 4-4. This match was super eventful but a match that Miami should've won. A Gonzalo Higuaín hat trick but sloppy defense allowed Cincinnati compete in this match making a draw feel like a loss. Miami remains in 11th of the Eastern Conference.

Next up for Inter Miami CF is a road trip out west for a mid week matchup against the San Jose Earthquakes.
