Inter Miami CF vs Portland Timbers
A 30-minute weather delay in Fort Lauderdale at DRV PNK Stadium did not dampen the dominating performance Miami produced Saturday night over Portland. For the first time this season we saw a Miami team that controlled every aspect of the match. Every match we are nearing in what Phil Neville imagined this team would be.
Drake Callender with another successful night in his sixth career start making four saves on the night. Defender Christopher McVey would move down the left flank to send in a cross to the wide open Leonardo Campana who would guide it in with his head to give Miami the 1-0 lead in the 27th minute.
Ariel Lassiter showing his pace and skill took a left-footed shot in the 59th minute that would bounce off the woodwork to find the substitute Robert Taylor to square it home to make it a 2-0 advantage to the South Florida club.
Pressure would be added to the match in which Miami had not felt all night after Bill Tuiloma got one back for the Timbers after a cross into the 18 squaring it home with his head to make it a 2-1 match. The match really opened up in the final 10 minutes in which looked like Portland would find an equalizer. Timbers almost found it but the goal would be denied by the crossbar to save Miami.
The match would end 2-1 seeing Inter Miami CF pick up all three points and back-to-back wins at home. Miami with the victory has moved into a playoff spot (7th) in the Eastern Conference.
Inter Miami CF will take quite a few days off due to the international break before returning on the road June 19th to face Atlanta United.
