Inter Miami CF vs D.C. United
Rainy season has begun in South Florida which made itself present this past weekend sending Inter Miami CF and D.C. United into a one hour weather delay from DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. With kickoff originally slated for 8:00 pm ET, the two teams were able to get the ball rolling at 9:15 pm ET.
Things started out bright for the Herons with Ariel Lassiter and Robert Taylor who had his best match in a Miami uniform so far making their impact felt on counter attacks. Unfortunate news occurred in the 29th minute with defender Kieran Gibbs being forced off with injury being replaced by the youngster Ryan Sailor. Another youngster worth mentioning is Bryce Duke who seems to have made his name permanent onto Phil Neville's starting 11. In the 31st minute, Lassiter would cross the ball on the left side to Leonardo Campana who would control and take a second touch strike pushing it past Hamid the D.C. keeper to make it 1-0 for Miami. That is Campana's 6th goal in the MLS this season proving to be Miami's goal scorer which is keeping Gonzalo Higuain on the bench.
The party wouldn't stop there as defender Damion Lowe would score a header off of a set piece in the 45th minute making it a 2-0 lead for Miami. Lowe returned to the starting 11 after missing one match due to a red card suspension. Campana's fellow Ecuadorian Michael Estrada would say not so fast as he received a cross into the 18 from Julian Gressel giving it a cheeky flick which found Taxiarchis Fountas unmarked to cut the down to one right at the half.
In the second half it would be the visitors controlling most of the game and chances until they got what they wanted. A man who has haunted Inter Miami since their existence would equalize the match 2-2 with a pass from Fountas down the right wing. That man would be the dangerous Ola Kamara who entered the match as a substitute. A single chance from both teams would happen before the final whistle but did not break the stalemate leaving the match tied in Fort Lauderdale. Inter Miami CF with a victory could have moved up the table but with the draw remain stationary in 13th place while D.C. climbs to 8th.
Inter Miami CF will travel to Subaru Park to face one of the top East contenders in the Philadelphia Union in a midweek match.
