Inter Miami CF vs Houston Dynamo
After a week off due to international break, the Herons were back at DRV PNK Stadium to welcome the Houston Dynamo. Miami, the only team without a victory in the Eastern Conference sitting dead last entered this match coming off a 3-1 defeat to FC Cincinnati. Houston on the other hand sitting 10th in the Western Conference entered this match coming off a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids. Its important to highlight that the Dynamo hadn't won a road match since 2020.
Slated for an 8:00 pm kickoff would become a 9:55 pm kickoff after a nearly two-hour weather delay with hurling rain and wind/lightning in Fort Lauderdale. The lineup for Miami would welcome back Robbie Robinson and GK Nick Marsman who returned from an injury picked up on the last home match of last season.
Right off the bat the Dynamo threatened with less then a minute in the match being played. It would go on to be pretty even in the first half with Miami creating chances but not being able to finish in the final third. The pink side totaled 22 shots throughout the night compared to Houston's 11 but out of those 22 only five were on target.
Colombian international Darwin Quintero would open the scoring for Houston in the 49th minute on a deflection that gave away a free header in between two Miami defenders that ended up past Marsman.
In the 57th minute, a ball played into the box was being called off by Marsman but miscommunication on the back line had defender Damion Lowe crashing into the Dutchmen leaving the ball loose in the area. Marsman would take down Fafa Picault to prompt the referee to point to the spot. This horrible mistake would give the Dynamo the 2-0 lead.
Hope was brought back into DRV PNK Stadium as a penalty was awarded in favor of Inter Miami after a foul in the box was committed by Houston GK Steve Clark arrived late taking out Gonzalo Higuain. Higuain would slot it home making it a 2-1 match and brought much needed energy to the South Florida side.
That hope would not last long when poor defending opened the door to a second Picault goal in the 90th minute making it a 3-1 score and would be the final score of this match. Jeers and boos were heard around DRV PNK Stadium at the final whistle from many frustrated fans.
Inter Miami CF will be home again next weekend welcoming the New England Revolution.
