 Bahrain Grand Prix

March 20, 2022- The 2022 Formula One season began with the Bahrain Grand Prix with much anticipation from racing fans. We enter the season with Max Verstappen and Red Bull racing defending their world title after ending the seven-year streak of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes.

Race Start Positions

P1- Charles LeClerc (Ferrari)

P2- Max Verstappen (Red Bull)

P3- Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)

P4- Sergio Perez (Red Bull)

P5- Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)

The man who would be voted racer of the day and who would take the checkered flag in Bahrain was Ferrari's very own Charles LeClerc. From the beginning of the race sitting in pole position (LeClerc) never looked back. He was challenged by Verstappen several times on turn one after Red Bull proved they had a faster car in a straight line. Charles managed the DRS correctly and was able to take back his first place position immediately after losing it to Max. Verstappen would struggle with steering issues from the midpoint of the race to the final stretch.

Talking about struggling, it was not a good day for McClaren as Lando Norris and fan favorite Daniel Ricciardo would finish P14 and P15. Pierre Gasly would have to retire his Alpha Tauri after a power failure prompting him to take P20 in the grand prix.

The power failure from Gasly would bring out the safety car with 10 laps to go which would close all the gaps leading to a thrilling restart. We would get the green with six laps left in the race which saw LeClerc quickly shoot out ahead in lead position. With two laps left the Red Bull of Verstappen began to lose power which would prompt the other Ferrari in Carlos Sainz to overtake him for P2. He would have to box and retire the car as the engine failed which left Sergio Perez in P3 fighting off Hamilton who had initiated DRS. Perez on the final lap of the race would spin out as his engine also failed allowing Hamilton way to gain P3. Both Red Bulls had engine failures and would end the race P18 and P19 without any points.
