Category 5 Path to the Natty, Can Miami Do It?
Someone pinch me, I must be dreaming. The Miami Hurricanes are in the College Football Playoffs, and the annoying Irish are out.
Miami secured the No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 seed Texas A&M Aggies in the first round on Saturday, December 20, 2025, in College Station. For longtime fans, this is a milestone — a sign that the program’s resurgence under Mario Cristobal has led Miami back onto college football’s biggest stage.
We must give credit to Mario Cristobal for making an exceptional decision to hire the new defensive coordinator, Corey Hetherman. From the atrocity on the defensive side last season... to becoming a fierce, disciplined, physical defense that can communicate on the fly and keep the team in games in case the offense was to struggle at any point. If Miami had not won that Week 1 matchup against the Irish, I personally don't believe Miami would’ve won 11 straight games and the Irish would’ve gotten in over us.
The Hurricanes are about to face an opponent that took the Irish to the wire and won 41-40 @ND. The Texas A&M Aggies are no pushovers, and they’ve got exceptional talent on both sides of the ball.
Key Players on Texas A&M:
QB: Marcel Reed
RB: Rueben Owens II
WR’s: Mario Carver, KC Concepcion
DE: Cashius Howell
If Miami wants to win this game, these are the defensive key factors:
Pressure Marcel Reed. He is known for turning the ball over when pressured
Everyone on defense needs to be on the same page when Reed scrambles
Keep a spy on Reed
Do Not Allow Big Plays
Cover KC Concepcion
Stop the run
Force a turnover
No penalties
Protect the edges! The Aggies are quick and fast
Miami’s Offensive Key Factors:
Establish the run. The Aggies are ranked 38th in the CFB against the run
Protect Carson Beck. Many of his turnovers have been because of incoming pressure
DONT TURN THE BALL OVER!!
NO SLOW STARTS! We cannot have scoreless drives!
Take the FGs. We need as many points as possible.
Run up the score, do not give them a chance at life!
Capitalize on turnovers, good field position and momentum.
Ultimately, Miami is going to have to play nearly perfect football from here on. If Miami were to beat the Aggies, they would go on to face the reigning National Champions, Ohio State Buckeyes in Round 2 @OSU.
In a hypothetical situation, the Hurricanes track to the Natty could potentially be:
R1: Texas A&M
R2: Ohio State
R3: Georgia
National Championship: Indiana, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas Tech or Alabama
The Miami Hurricanes are about to enter a Category 5 mega storm. The first 3 rounds would be away games, but if the Hurricanes could pull-off a Cinderella story and make it to the National Championship, they’d be home at Hard Rock Stadium on Jan 19, 2026, with a chance to win in front of all the Miami Hurricanes fans attending and the city of Miami.
