2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix race report and highlights: Lando Norris wins thrilling Sao Paulo GP from Kimi Antonelli as Max Verstappen climbs to third

The 2025 São Paulo Grand Prix at Autódromo José Carlos Pace Interlagos delivered drama, strategy twists and a significant shake-up in the title fight for the Formula One World Championship.

Lando Norris powered his way to victory from pole position, building on his momentum and becoming further clear in the championship fight. Rookie Kimi Antonelli scored his best career finish to date, grabbing second place for Mercedes AMG F1 Team. Max Verstappen produced a sensational comeback drive, starting from the pit-lane and overcoming an early setback to finish third. Title contender Oscar Piastri faced setbacks- a penalty for causing a collision cost him dearly as he could only finish fifth.

Norris got off the line well and held his lead into the opening corners. Soon after, a crash by Gabriel Bortoleto at his home race triggered a safety car. After the restart, Piastri attempted an ambitious overtake on Antonelli, which resulted in contact. That collision also collected Charles Leclerc and ended his race. Piastri received a 10-second time penalty and two license penalty points. Meanwhile, Verstappen, who had suffered an early puncture and was forced to start from the pit lane, began a methodical climb up the order. By the final laps, Norris had a comfortable lead, but behind him the battle for second was intense: Antonelli defending from Verstappen's advances. In the end Antonelli held on, Verstappen claimed P3. Russell held off Piastri to finish fourth.

Norris's win strengthens his grip on the championship lead, now a 24-point advantage over teammate Piastri. Verstappen's podium keeps him mathematically alive, but the margin to Norris is growing. Piastri's penalty-laden weekend raises questions about consistency under pressure. Mercedes strong showing suggests their resurgence and potential threat to both McLaren and Red Bull.
