Worst Loss in the Lionel Messi Era for Inter Miami CF

Inter Miami CF seemed to be back on track after a thrashing defeat of the New York Red Bulls at home with a final scoreline of 4-1. That result would be lost in hindsight after the debacle that occurred at Allianz Field on Saturday afternoon. Javier Mascherano has been receiving tough criticism as well as the club for hiring him as head coach with no experience at the first club level.

Minnesota United hung a banner before the match started that stated "History Over Hype Culture Over Cash". The club on their social media posted "Pink Phony Club" as their caption which prompted Miami owner David Beckham to respond over social media. Beckham commented under the post stating "Show a little respect be elegant in triumph".

Miami entered the match without Luis Suarez who was out to due personal reasons. Hlongwane got the party started for Minnesota in the 32nd minute giving the Loons the 1-0 lead. It continued right before halftime with Markanich making it 2-0 at the break. Miami showed signs of life with Messi bringing one back to make it 2-1. Miami fans were left with their hands on their head with Marcelo Weigandt scoring an own goal giving Minnesota the 3-1 lead. Robin Lod finally put this match out of reach in the 70th minute making it 4-1.

This was the worst loss for Inter Miami CF in the Lionel Messi era with him on the field. Reports are that Messi is 50/50 on signing a new deal with the South Florida club. Inter Miami CF has major defensive issues and rely on Messi too much to get things done. The club has let go of players like Leonardo Campana, Julian Gressel, and Robert Taylor who were quality players. With an aging Luis Suarez instead of having Campana come off the bench or start you have Fafa Picault who isn't on the level of Campana. Inter Miami CF has little time to right the ship before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Up next for Inter Miami CF is a road game visiting the San Jose Earthquakes.
