Rory McIlroy wins the 89th Masters
The 89th Masters tournament at Augusta National the most prestige golf event for players and fans was a fun one. Names like Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson were cut after day two which allowed new names chase the green jacket. The biggest of all was Rory McIlroy who was chasing his first major since 2014 as well as looking to complete the grand slam. The Northern Irishman would be going for his 17th attempt at winning the Masters.
The final round at Augusta started with Bryson DeChambeau tying McIlroy but that would be about it for Bryson who would really struggle the rest of the day. The final nine would prove to be the challenge with names like Aberg and Reed becoming contenders trying to close the gap to McIlroy. Rory would enter hole 12 with a four-stroke lead but what would come next would shock everyone.
Rory would bottle holes 12 and 13 making way for Justin Rose to have a chance to win the 89th Masters. Rose finished 18 with a beautiful and clutch putt to keep the pressure on Rory. Once Rory arrived at 18 he had a putt to make par to bring home the Masters but would miss sending the tournament to a playoff between Rose and McIlroy. Rory would set himself for a better putting situation compared to Rose with McIlroy having a tap in that would win him the 89th Masters sending him to his knees in emotion finally completing the grand slam. Last years winner Scottie Scheffler presented McIlroy with his green jacket in front of his wife and daughter Poppy.
