Florida Panthers vs Las Vegas Golden Knights

Florida Panthers vs Las Vegas Golden Knights

It was a heartbreaking loss on Thursday in OT to the Vancouver Canucks at home for the Florida Panthers falling 3-2. For the moment the Panthers currently sit first in the Atlantic division and third in the Eastern Conference even though it's way too early in the season. The Panthers welcomed the Las Vegas Golden Knights to Amerant Bank Arena Saturday night in a rematch of the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals. Vegas has opened up this new season 3-1.

The Golden Knights were outshot on the night 49-26 and 21-6 at the start of the third period. The Panthers continue to show their depth with the way they've been playing without Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk. Jonah Gadjovich would go down with an injury leaving Florida down a man and while dealing with salary cap constraints.

Once again as it's been the story early on this season for the Panthers they would concede a goal first. It was Tanner Pearson who would get on the board for the Golden Knights late on with 19:27 on the clock in the first period making it 1-0. The first period would end with Las Vegas holding onto that 1-0 lead.

In the second period both teams would get on the board but Florida would outscore Las Vegas. Just 1:09 into the second period it was Sam Reinhart assisted by Lundell would equalize the game for the Panthers 1-1. Las Vegas would respond at 14:15 with Kolesar assisted by Pearson would give the Golden Knights the 2-1 lead. The second period would end with Sam Bennett finding the back of the net equalizing for the Panthers 2-2.

Just seven minutes into the third period it was Howden for Las Vegas who would reclaim the lead for his team making it 3-2. Reinhart would assist Luostarinen 12 minutes in to equalize the game at 3-3 with both of these teams trading blows back and forth. Three periods would not be enough as the Panthers headed to overtime for the second time this season and on back-to-back games. In OT it was Gustav Forsling four minutes into the extra period making it 4-3 and giving the Panthers the victory.

Next up for the Florida Panthers is a home game welcoming the Minnesota Wild to Amerant Bank Arena.
