Florida Panthers vs Columbus Blue Jackets

Florida Panthers vs Columbus Blue Jackets

The only team the Florida Panthers have been able to beat this season is the Boston Bruins twice now but losses against Ottawa and Buffalo. This next game would be the final game of the road trip with Florida visiting the Columbus Blue Jackets on the second night of a back-to-back. The night started off somber with Columbus honoring Johnny Gaudreau who tragically passed away from a car accident in the off-season. The Panthers respectfully joined in a moment of silence as well as holding the puck for 13 seconds at the beginning of the game.

When it came to the game action for the second night in a row it was the opposing side getting on the scoreboard first. Cole Sillinger would get the Blue Jackets on the board coming 41 seconds into the second period making it 1-0. Spencer Knight was in goal for Florida for the second time this season and would be busy in goal with Columbus outshooting Florida 38-22. As we've learned from recent years is that Paul Maurice Panthers don't go quietly into the night.

In the span of 1:37 the Panthers would take the lead in the second period. Anton Lundell would get on the board first equalizing the game at 1-1 followed by a goal from the Blue Jackets from Sean Monahan but it was short lived. Dimitry Kulikov wasted no time just seconds later scoring for Florida making it a 2-2 game. Columbus struggled to compete and match Florida stride for stride leaving them frustrated that the Panthers always had an answer and comeback.

Sam Reinhart would tally his fourth goal of the early season late in the second period to give Florida the 3-2 lead. In the third period it would be Eetu Luostarinen doubling the Panthers lead making it 4-2 before the Blue Jackets had a response. James van Riemsdyk would score cutting the deficit making it 4-3 but would not be enough. The Panthers would go ahead and defeat the Blue Jackets by the final score of 4-3on an emotional evening.

Next up for the Florida Panthers is a home game welcoming the Vancouver Canucks to Amerant Bank Arena.
