FIU vs Liberty

 FIU vs Liberty

It was an impressive first conference game of the season and victory for the FIU Panthers who moved to a 2-3 record with a 1-0 conference record. The hardest take was upcoming for the Panthers who traveled to Lynchburg to visit the Liberty Flames. The Flames have the current longest winning streak in college football with the team currently 1-0 in the conference and 4-0 overall this season. Last season the Flames demolished Panthers but this a tougher FIU squad.

FIU QB Keyone Jenkins would throw for 245 yards with just one interception going 19/29. Kejon Owens would be the most impactful on the ground for the Panthers with 15 carries going for 52 yards and one touchdown. Eric Rivers would leave receiving on five receptions for 95 yards but did have a costly fumble late in the game. Dean Patterson was the next closest with six receptions going for 90 yards but no touchdowns.

Liberty QB Kaidon Salter would go 9/16 for 125 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Quinton Cooley would go for a cool 174 yards off of 29 carries and two touchdowns. In terms or rushing, Salter himself would have two touchdowns as well. For receiving it was Reese Smith who would go for 68 yards on just four receptions.

This is the closest the Liberty Flames have come to losing their winning streak with the team being heavily penalized all night. Flames went up by 14 points in which in the second half the Panthers would come back scoring 14 points to send the game into overtime. Flames would score and in the response for the Panthers, Flames would force a fumble to end the game. The Flames would go on to defeat the Panthers 31-24.

Next up for the FIU Panthers is a road game visiting UTEP.
