The Miami FC vs Phoenix Rising FC

The Miami FC vs Phoenix Rising FC

On the road in desperate need for some points is The Miami FC who come off a loss to Indy Eleven 3-1 at home. Miami still sits in last of the Eastern Conference with just 9 points but are just four points off of Loudoun United sitting in the final playoff spot of 8th. Phoenix Rising entered this match sitting 5th in the Western Conference with 15 points as they tied 1-1 to Detroit City in their last match on the road. The Rising will soon take on MLS side Seattle Sounders in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The match started with Phoenix putting a lot of pressure on Miami. The South Florida side had its chances with Luisinho and Manuel Botta coming close to open the scoring but the Phoenix keeper would come up with some saves plus some calls inn favor of the Rising kept the score 0-0. Miami has struggled to keep the visiting teams off the scoreboard as they've conceded 19 times so far this season.

The Rising would open the scoring in the 36th minute just 15 minutes before heading to the dressing room. Fredrico Varela was able to slot the ball home past Ndiaye to give the home side the 1-0 lead. Miami has not had a good record every time the opponent has scored first. They've struggled to come back let alone not having a positive record on the road.

The lead would double for Phoenix in the dying moments of the first half. Ndiaye traveled too far from goal leaving the net wide open in which Edgardo Rito would take advantage and slot it home with no pressure to make it 2-0. A 2-0 lead is always the most dangerous in all of soccer but this second goal seemed to dampen the fight within Miami.

That scoreline would remain and would be final with the Phoenix Rising defeating The Miami FC 2-0 making it three straight defeats. They have only managed two victories so far this season as they currently sit at a 2-8 overall record. Still lots of soccer to be played but this is definitely worrying the Miami faithful that has been used to seeing the squad be competitive.

Next up for The Miami FC is a home match welcoming North Carolina FC to FIU Stadium at the weekend.
