Inter Miami CF vs CF Montreal
Back at Chase Stadium and returning to league action after Inter Miami CF took on Nashville SC on the road for CONCACAF Champions Cup. Miami would welcome in CF Montreal who contain several former Herons such as Ariel Lassiter, Bryce Duke, and Josef Martinez. The South Florida side would be without Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez starting from the bench due to game management.
A cause for concern is still the Miami defense as it was tested early with Montreal taking the 1-0 lead in just the 13th minute. Defender Fernando Alvarez would punish the Herons on a set piece leaving Drake Callender with nothing to do. Alvarez was left wide open and was able to make contact with the ball without any sort of pressure.
New signing Federico Redondo played a big part in the closest chance that Miami had in the first half. Redondo would connect with Julian Gressel who would then find Robert Taylor making a run down the center of the box. Taylor with a great first touch would then have to face a keeper racing out cutting off comfortable angles forcing the Finland star into a shot. The shot would hit the bar and fall out of play in the 41st minute.
Lawson Sunderland would find Leonardo Campana in the 71st minute with a cross to the far post with a heading finish to equalize the match 1-1. Montreal had a response as they would have two quick back-to-back goals in the 75th and 78th minute to make the lead 3-1. Miami wasn't done yet as Jordi Alba would pull one back in the 80th minute with a spectacular goal making it 3-2.
Sadly, it was not enough as CF Montreal hands Inter Miami CF their first loss of the season with 3-2 result. Next up for Inter Miami CF is a home match welcoming Nashville SC for the second leg of the Champions Cup tied 2-2 on aggregate.
