FIU vs UCONN
The Panthers hit the road for their second time this season facing the UCONN Huskies who got the best of FIU last season when they traveled down to Miami. ESPN had FIU only winning two games this season as well as losing to UCONN who entered the matchup 0-2. Panthers already completed an upset by taking down North Texas at home.
20,000 people in East Hartford, Connecticut witnessed FIU QB Keyone Jenkins go for 284 yards who has really been the game changer for the Panthers. Some believe that if Jenkins would've started over Grayson James on week one that FIU would be undefeated right now.
FIU would do a great job going up 24-3 at the half and put themselves in a good position to seal the deal for win #3. A surprise would hit the Panthers in the second half with the Huskies going for 82 yards and converting twice on third down.
The Huskies would get Jelani Stafford into the end zone making it a 24-10 ballgame lighting up some hope for a comeback. The effort relayed on the defensive side of the ball holding FIU to just 33 yard in the entire third quarter.
Devontae Houston would go for 37 yards for the Huskies into the end zone bringing the deficit to 24-17 making it a one possession game. UCONN started to gain steam and you could feel the momentum starting to shift.
FIU's offense struggled to ice the game out with a missed Chase Gabriel kick as well as going three and out giving the ball back to the Huskies. Cameron Ross had a chance to tie things up but would come up short on fourth down in the red zone. This allowed the Panthers to run out the clock and hold onto the 24-17 victory advancing to a 3-1 overall record on the season.
Next up for FIU is a home game welcoming Liberty to FIU Stadium at the weekend.
