FIU vs Liberty

 FIU vs Liberty

The South Florida community has been shocked with how well the FIU Panthers have been playing after their week one loss. A switch at QB bringing on Keyone Jenkins has been a big part of that and his connection with WR Kris Mitchell. The Panthers hosted Liberty on homecoming night which would be a huge challenge as Liberty are undefeated.

The Flames would post 340 yards of total offense with 220 of them coming on the ground within the first 30 minutes of the game. They would finish with 504 yards of offense being led by QB Kaidon Salter who went for 156 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite the Panthers defense creating three turnovers, the Flames would go up in this game 14-0 as FIU struggled to do anything offensively. They would fire back on a drive that went 94 yards on 10 plays that resulted in a touchdown. The extra point was missed and would leave the score 14-6 with Liberty in the lead.

Before halftime it would be the Flames scoring with 2:56 left on a 18-yard run from Billy Lucas at the end of a 62-yard drive to make it 21-6.

Jenkins would throw his 4th interception of the year handing the ball off to Liberty at their own 27. A 41-yard field goal would add more points on the board for the Flames making it 24-6.

Salters third touchdown would come in the early part of the third quarter after a successful fourth down attempt at midfield. Liberty would extend its lead over FIU 31-6 with no comeback hope possible for the Panthers.

A 65-yard drive would be capped off with a one-yard run by Salters his second rushing touchdown and fourth of the game in the 3rd quarter to make it a 38-6 game.

That score would hold final as Liberty remains undefeated meanwhile FIU drops its second conference game and record to 3-2.

Next up for FIU is a bye week giving them time to reflect and go back to the drawing board.
