Inter Miami CF vs Orlando City

Inter Miami CF vs Orlando City

The Round of 32 is set in the Leagues Cup with Inter Miami CF welcoming rivals Orlando City to DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. This will be the first time Lionel Messi and new look Miami take on Orlando in the derby this season. What a way to continue the rivalry with a knockout stage match that has plenty of meaning.

Weather delays have become the usual in Fort Lauderdale and this one once again was delayed due to the occasional summer thunderstorm in South Florida. The special connection between Robert Taylor and Messi continued in the 7th minute with a beautiful lifted ball controlled on the chest and volleyed by Messi for 1-0.

The road team would have fight in them and for a while they were controlling the game with possession and physical play. There was a lot of chirping on the field all the little things that makes a rivalry, a rivalry. City would equalize in the 17th minute with Cesar Araujo scooping up a deflection from Drake Callender to put back the rebound for 1-1.

The second half would start in favor of the Herons with Benjamin Cremaschi with a through ball finding Josef Martinez in the box who was taken down resulting in a penalty. Messi would hand the ball to Martinez for the penalty who would put Miami ahead 2-1.

A combo play occurred in the 72nd minute with Messi slipping a ball on the left flank to Taylor who chipped it to Martinez who was waiting in the box who found the unmarked Messi in the box touching it over to the Argentine for another volley to make it 3-1.

The double from Messi and the penalty from Martinez puts Miami through to the Round of 16 of Leagues Cup eliminating their rivals Orlando City.

Next up for Inter Miami CF is a road match at the weekend visiting FC Dallas in the Round of 16 in the Leagues Cup.
