Inter Miami CF vs Charlotte FC

Inter Miami CF vs Charlotte FC

We're off to the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup where Inter Miami CF have gone from nine straight losses to adding Lionel Messi. With Messi, he's taken them all the way to the quarterfinals of this inaugural tournament having scored in every match. They welcomed Charlotte FC to DRV PNK Stadium for a date to face the Philadelphia Union.

The match started off just in Miami's favor and the way they would've wanted it to with a penalty awarded in the 10th minute. Josef Martinez would step up to the spot and bury the penalty for 1-0 giving the Herons the lead.

Charlotte's defense struggled immensely in the beginning of this match with Miami's midfield finding gaps pushing the ball forward. Deandre Yedlin would find Robert Taylor running into the box with the American playing a low pass to Taylor who hit it first time for 2-0.

The second half would continue to go Miami's way with an own goal in the 78th minute extending the Herons lead to 3-0. This would be the second own goal in the second straight match as FC Dallas scored an own goal against Miami last week.

Leonardo Campana and Messi would connect in the 86th minute with Campana receiving a ball from the Argentine who would go on the run for Campana to pick him out. The World Cup winner would make it 4-0 in favor of Miami.

Miami would go on to defeat Charlotte 4-0 eliminating them from the tournament as Miami themselves will continue on to the semi-finals.

Up next for Inter Miami CF is a semi-final matchup at Subaru Park visiting the Philadelphia Union in the Leagues Cup.
