The Miami FC vs New Mexico United
Back at FIU Stadium for the second match of the season after a result last week that left The Miami FC feeling like they should've picked up all three points. They had a chance to make that happen tonight welcoming in New Mexico United.
The Miami FC would start the match the same way they did last season with much pace and intensity. The struggle with trying to find an answer in the final third continued.
Both teams had quality looks at goal through set pieces but were not able to capitalize.
In the 85th minute, a handball in the box was whistled for a penalty. Justin Portillo stepped up and drilled it to make it 1-0. It was an absolute heartbreak for Miami conceding so late in the match.
This gives New Mexico United +3 to start off their 2023 campaign and hands Miami their first loss of the season.
Next up for The Miami FC is a road match kicking off the weekend at Highmark Stadium facing the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
