Inter Miami CF vs Philadelphia Union

Inter Miami CF vs Philadelphia Union

The biggest challenge arrived at DRV PNK Stadium in the defending Eastern Conference champion the Philadelphia Union visited the Herons. The Union who made the MLS Cup Final looked to be in form in week one by scoring four goals. Inter Miami CF kicked off the 2023 campaign with a 2-0 victory over a new identity CF Montreal.

Leonardo Campana would be out once again with Coco Jean getting the start and Robert Taylor returning from injury as well coming off the bench.

From the beginning of this match it was Phil Neville's plan to beat the Union to the punch and absolutely dominated possession. The Herons also were strong defensively not allowing the Union to get anything done in the final third. Drake Callender put up another solid performance and adding another clean sheet.

In the 32nd minute it was Rodolfo Pizarro who did a good job shielding the ball and delivering to Jean who would smash an absolute banger of a shot into the bottom left corner past Andre Blake for 1-0.

The second half would provide a little more threat from the Union but ultimately could not push past the Miami defense. This match was also super physical providing for some heated moments between Miami and Philly players.

In the 77th minute it would be the clear MLS goal of the week with Robert Taylor receiving a pass controlling it with his chest ad burying a volley to make it 2-0.

This would seal the deal for Miami giving them their best and most impressive start to a season. Union head coach Jim Curtin had lots of praise for the Miami intensity and not allowing them to find their rhythm.

Still the beginning of the season but Inter Miami CF are at the top of the east through two weeks with six points. Miami will travel to Yankee Stadium to take on NYCFC next weekend.
