The Miami Marlins hire Skip Schumaker as their next manager
The Miami Marlins announced on Tuesday that Skip Schumaker will be their new manager after parting ways with long time manager Don Mattingly.
The two-time World Series Champion played 11 seasons in Major League Baseball and grabbed those two world titles in 2006 and 2011 as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Marlins General Manager Kim Ng spoke on the hiring stating "Having been a member of two championship teams, along with his reputation for tenacity and getting every ounce of his ability, Skip will be a tremendous example to our players. His leadership style, teaching skills and attention to detail made him the clear choice as the club's new manager."
Schumaker also delivered a statement regarding his arrival to Miami stating "Delivering a winning, sustainable culture with the exception of getting into the postseason is the next step for this organization and South Florida - and I can't wait to get started."
This will be the first time Schumaker will be the head manager of a ball club as he previously served as a bench coach with the Cardinals as well as an assistant with the San Diego Padres.
