Miami Hurricanes win one and drop one to Virginia Tech and Duke
The Miami Hurricanes as of today are just an average college football team. First, they go on the
road into Virginia Tech’s house and edge out a close win 20-14 against the Hokies. Miami’s new
starting receiver, Colbie Young, making some incredible catches and the offense looks like it is
getting better as the weeks go on. The Hurricanes were able to snap the 3-game losing streak
but now they have to go up against a Duke football team that has been playing exceptionally well
with their new first year head coach, Mike Elko. Fast forward to next week and it is a beautiful
day in Miami, and Hurricane fans are expecting a win because of Miami’s overall record against
Duke (15-4). Miami’s first drive ends up in a touchdown because of fumble by the Blue Devils.
Then for the rest of the half Miami doesn’t score and the game is 17-7 in favor of Duke. Miami
starts the second half aggressive and takes a 21-17 lead by scoring two touchdowns, but the lead
didn’t last long. The Hurricanes then proceeded to turn over the ball four times and Duke took
full advantage of that. Duke scores 28 points in the second half, 21 of those points coming in the
4 th quarter. The Miami Hurricanes end up losing 45-21 and 8 turnovers to go with it. Miami and
Duke were basically even in total yards, time of possession, and first downs. In the end, what
caused Miami the victory was the 8 turnovers and starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke getting
injured in the first half. Miami’s overall record is 3-4 (wins-losses), the Hurricanes need to
continue to make the offense and defense more efficient if they want to be eligible for a bowl
game this season.
